In a catch basin, you'll find this:

Yes, those paths are about bicycle-sized. With crosswalks, stop signs, and lane markings throughout. It was so crazy looking that a vanload of my colleagues and I drove around the block to take another gander. The photo was taken by one of my colleagues. Our best guess was that this was for public safety demonstrations.

Has anybody else beheld this particular wonder or know anything more about it? The particular location is kind of startling!

When I was in first or second grade, we took a field trip to a place very similar to this in order to teach us bicycle safety. That was in a totally different state, mind you, but I expect the application is similar.

I think I've seen that before... I just assumed they used it as a place to shove snow.
